Good morning all from Kenya.
I am definitely a happy camper today and will be happier tomorrow after we officially dedicate the library.
The group of volunteers has been incredible, I have never worked with a group of such dedicated and focused people.
I am even further touched by the overwhelming large numbers of local volunteers who have come out in large numbers and worked with the VIM team. When I look back now and recall a meeting I had with a certain person (name withheld) who told me that getting volunteers (free labor in Kenya) was close to impossible I smile :) . I remember Jean coming out on Tuesday evening and asking me if we could send the volunteers home so the Librarians could breath and also check progress. I wonder how I moved from 20 volunteers to 50 :) I guess there is a message out there for all, WE ARE WILLING, we just need someone to give us direction and a chance.
Today is going to be more of a crush day as we work on getting the library presentable for tomorrow. Did I mention that we are going to have the cutest bookshelves in the children's reading area thanks to Bob and his expertise and the students from the school for the deaf's vocational school who are thrilled to learn from someone else apart from their wonderful teacher.
Don't ask about the furniture I am extremely frustrated by the furniture shop that has failed to deliver tables and chairs on time.
OH, I almost forgot to mention that the foundation got a book donation from a local publishing company worth, KSH. 1, 000,000. Yes, that is 1 Million shillings (translates to about $14,700) !!!!!!!
